Swim lessons at the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA focus on water safety first. Our structured program helps participants develop confidence and strong foundational skills at every level. Whether your child is just beginning or advancing through stroke development, our certified instructors create a supportive and encouraging environment in the pool.

Adult Swim Lessons

Lessons for adults are offered through private and semi-private lessons. Lessons are available for those with special needs, led by an experienced instructor. Please fill out and submit a private lesson application available at the front desk.

Private Swim Lessons

Please fill out and submit a private lesson application available at the front desk or online at saymca.org to schedule 30-minute lessons. Receive 15% off when purchasing four or more lessons

IMPORTANT: Please allow several weeks after submitting private swim lessons applications to be contacted by a swim lesson instructor before contacting the front desk. Due to the limited availability of instructors and our extensive waitlist, applicants will be allowed to purchase a maximum of four lessons and will then go back on the waitlist.

Private Lesson Fees:
Members: $25, 2nd child $20
Non Members: $40, 2nd child is $35

Semi-Private Lessons

Semi-private swim lessons allow for more individualized attention while maintaining a supportive learning environment. These lessons are ideal for swimmers who benefit from focused instruction or wish to progress more quickly. Registration and scheduling for semi-private lessons are handled at the front desk.

Semi-Private Lesson Fees:
Members: $18, 2nd child $20
Non Members: $30, 2nd child $25

Group Swim Lessons

The YMCA Swim Lesson Curriculum is a core group of aquatic skills every person needs to be safe around water students begin with and build upon skills they are ready to learn, helping them to celebrate their successes, build self-confidence, and enjoy learning to swim and water safety. **Parents accompany children in Parent Child I and II for children 6 months- 3 years.

** Parents or caregivers must be in the pool with their infant or toddler during WDA and WEB**

Water Discovery A (Ages 6 months – 2 years)

Specifically designed for infants and toddlers with their parent. This is a beginner class to introduce parent/child teams to the aquatic environment through water exploration with songs, games and rudimentary propulsive movements. Emphasis is placed on basic safety and enjoyable experiences for both parents and children.

Preschool Aquatics (Ages 3-5 years)

Preschool Aquatics is a progressive program that involves five components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue skills. Progress reports are given to swimmers in the last class.

Water Exploration B (Ages 2-3 years)

This class is designed to build on basic introductory skills covered in Parent Child I, such as safety skills and the beginnings of propulsive movement. Parent Child Il is recommended for Parent/Child pairs who have already taken Parent Child I and are looking for
more skill development. This class is also recommended for Parent/Child pairs whose children may not meet the height/age requirements of the Pike Level Class.

Youth Aquatics: (Ages 6-12)

The YMCA youth swim program involves five components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue skills.
